1. Read the surface signs
Nature leaves clues about where water collects underground. Look for:
- Vegetation that stays green in dry seasons — deep-rooted trees and lush patches often sit above shallow water.
- Low points and valley floors where rainfall naturally drains and recharges aquifers.
- Existing wells nearby — their depth and yield are the single best local indicator.
- Springs, seeps and damp soil that persist after rain stops.
These signs narrow the search, but they can mislead on their own. Combine them with geology and terrain.
